Southern League cards in the 1909 T206 Set feature mostly lesser known players but command more money than regular commons because of their rarity.

Pittsburgh grabbed Bartell from the semi-pro ranks in 1927 and sent him to Bridgeport in the Eastern League for a year. He came back to the Pirates in 1928 and hit for .305 in 72 games. Three years with the Pirates and now playing his third season with Phillies. A mighty good shortstop and also a dangerous batter. Last year he hit .308 in 154 games and fielded .963. He is 24 and hails from Alameda, Cal. He is a right-hander, five feet, nine inches tall and weighs 148 pounds.

An All-State Football, Basketball and Baseball player in High School, "Chick" started in pro ball in 1945. The Indians paid Wilkes-Barre $20,000 for him after he won 16, struck out 103 and had the best Earned Run Average (2.04) in the Eastern League in 1950. Used mostly in relief in 1951, Bob is sure to see more action this year. In 1946 he saw service in the Army.
