Name that player!

A boy who's made good in his home town. Scouts saw him playing up on Washington Heights and within a year he was promoted to the top Giant farm club, Jersey City. His record of 52 consecutive games without an error is still to be topped. The style and perfection of his workmanship is a joy to behold. His quick hands are his great baseball attribute. Batting average last year was .287.

Merrill May, a graduate of Indiana University, was drafted by the Philadelphia Phils from the Newark Bears in 1938. While with Newark he had a batting average of .331, driving in 108 runs for the Bears, and he was one of the chief reasons why Newark won the International League race. Merrill May finished third in batting for the International League, and accounted for 12 home runs. Merrill May has been playing very good ball this season for the Phils and experts predict a very brilliant major-league career for him.

Ray's screwball helped him break into the A.L. with a bang last year. At St. Paul, he set a record by striking out 18 batters in one game. Ray had the Oriole's best won-lost Pct. last season and worked in the most Balt. games.
