Whitey made trip from sandlots to Polo Grounds in 2 years. By mid-year of his first season on a farm club, he so out-classed club he was transferred to Jersey City. Had one thrill few players experience. On his first appearance at Polo Grounds he drove a home run into right field seats. Broken leg in 1947 kept him out of line-up. Last season he hit .286 and drove in 59 runs in 146 games for Giants.



Vic divided the 1947 season between the Portland Club of the Pacific Coast League and the New York Yankees. However, it wasn't until last season that Vic came into his own. He won 19 games and lost 8. He missed about three opportunities late in the season to win his twentieth game. His .704 percentage was one of the best in the American League. He struck out 124 batters and had an Earned Run Average of .383.



In 26 games in 1951, with 1 win and 4 losses. Pitched 73 innings. Walked 37 men and struck out 18. His earned run average was 4.56. In the game since 1937, and in the majors since 1939. With Senators, 1939-40. With White Sox, 1941-48. Back with Senators since 1949.
