Traded to the Giants during the winter, the veteran southpaw was once a righthander. He factured his right arm as a boy and converted himself into a lefty. Max came up with the Cardinals in 1939 from Columbus. He had a trial in 1938, his second year in pro ball. With 20 shutouts to his credit, Max had his best years in 1942-43-44 with records of 13-8, 15-7, 17-12 and 6-0 in 1946. He runs a restaurant in the winter.
Hit .282 for 115 games in 1950. Began in pro ball for Ogden, Pioneer League, in 1939. Bobby hit .335 during first year, and .356 in the second. With Columbia of the Sally League in 1941, batting .348. Played for Syracuse of the International League in 1942. Spent the next 3 years in the service. Returned to baseball with Cincinnati in 1946. Has been with the Reds ever since.
Wally has had a long and distinguished career in baseball. He was one of the best fielding outfielders around, and his major league lifetime batting average was .291. He began in 1931 and first came to the majors in 1935 with Philadelphia. He hit .325 that year and .300 or better every year until 1942. He was with the White Sox that year. Then he played for the Red Sox, and finally, from 1949 to 1951, again with Philadelphia Athletics.
