Battaglia is a very capable checking forward who is starting to produce offensively for Carolina. Not surprisingly, he spent the majority of his time on the checking line last season with the Hurricanes, and was often found working hard to dig the puck out of corners. Battaglia will also crash the net with frequency, and has begun sending home loose rebounds. All in all, Carolina's left-winger plays a strong game and has shown the willingness to battle with anyone in the league.
A second-round draft pick of the Whalers in 1990, Geoff Sanderson joined Hartford for the end of the 1990-91 season and the Stanley Cup playoffs after completing his junior career with Swift Current (WHL). He led the Broncos in goals and was second on his team in points last season. Sanderson, who averaged better than a point per game in his WHL career, scored his first NHL goal in his first game with the Whalers last season.
