On October 4, 1991, Pat recorded the first multiple-goal game in Sharks history. He tallied twice in the third period as San Jose took the Canucks to overtime before dropping a 4-3 decision. Pat spent the majority of '90-91 with Minnesota's Kalamazoo (IHL) farm club where he was voted the team's defensive player of the year. He finished second among team blueliners in scoring with 40 points (10 goals, 30 assists) in 59 games. Pat was the North Stars' fifth choice (87th overall) in the 1987 Entry Draft. In '89-90, he posted nine goals and 38 assists in 82 matches for Kalamazoo. Pat played his junior hockey for Kamloops (WHL), where he registered 91 points (24 goals, 67 assists) in 87 career games.
Winner of the 1998 Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman, Rob won his first Stanley Cup in 2000-01, with the Avalanche. He is one of the game's best power-play quarterbacks.
Alexei Kovalev has the distinction of being the first Soviet-born player ever taken in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft. Selected 15th overall by the New York Rangers in '91, Kovalev gained valuable international experience during the '92 IIHF World Junior Championships, '92 Olympics and '92 IIHF World Championships.
