When a pitcher twirls a no-hit game he is hailed as great. Most baseball men, however, give the hard-working catcher some credit for the feat. Val Picinich caught Joe Bush in a no-hit performance in 1916. He also served five years as catcher for the great Walter Johnson. Picinich jumped from the semi-pros to the big league in 1916. Since then he has played with Athletics, Senators, Red Sox, Reds and Dodgers. He is 36, a right-handed batter, five feet, nine inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. Last year he hit .257 in 41 games.
