In 1939, Mickey tried out for the Giants as a pitcher. He was advised to try the outfield and finally found his spot as a catcher. He started in organized ball with Trenton in 1941 and homered his first time at bat. The next 3 years, he was in the Army and was captured by the Germans in North Africa. In 1946, Mickey came back with Jersey City and had a brief trial with the Giants. He came to the Senators in '50 from Seattle.
