In his first full season with the Indians, this stream-lined second baseman gave his finest showing. Vern has sure hands & an accurate arm.

Jimmy Foxx, who has been dividing his time between first base and catching for the Athletics since Micky Cochrane became manager of Detroit, is one of the rare "finds" about which managers dream, a country boy who has a natural batting gift. Foxx was raised in Maryland on his father's dairy farm, where he helped with the milking. He credits much of his enormous strength of wrist, by which he gets his great distance, to this early exercise. He has hit 58 homeruns in a single season, two less than Ruth's record, and is counted as the most likely man in the game today to break Babe's homerun mark.

CAREER APPRAISAL: Over 18 seasons, and with no sign of decline, Jeter has inserted himself into the Yankees pantheon of stars. Career hit No. 3,500 is within reach in 2013, even as he approaches slightly longer-term milestones of 2,000 runs and 300 homers.
