Another home town boy makes good. In 1945 he led AL in seven departments. He led all fielders in 1944. He topped League in put-outs in both 1944 and 1945. He was an All-American halfback at U. of North Carolina. The Sporting News named him to their All-Star Major League Team of 1945. His batting average for 1948 was .252. This is his sixth Yankee season.



Does an important job as the Phillies' bull-pen catcher. Got into only 4 games last year. Had 2 hits, and batted in a run. Began in baseball in 1936. First played in majors with White Sox in 1939. Traded to the Yankees. Drafted by the Phils from Newark in November, 1948.



Carl, possessor of one of baseball's best throwing arms, is also a feared man with a bat. He was in 150 games for the 1954 Dodgers, batting .294. He had 23 doubles, 1 triple and 19 homers among his 161 hits, and he drove in 96 runs. His best season was in 1953 with Brooklyn when he won the National League batting title with a .344 average. He's been with Brooklyn since 1946, after starting in organized baseball in 1940.
