The righthander was a highly touted rookie before the beginning of the 1965 season and Bob lived up to expectations. A real work- horse, Bob pitched in 51 ballgames for the Chicago White Sox, chalking up saves and 5 wins. The sinker-ball pitcher was tied for the league lead in victories while hurling for Indianapolis.
Saul is another of the strong pitchers that make the White Sox staff a formidable one. He appeared in 33 games in 1952, winning 14 and losing 9. The preceding year Saul's earned run average of 2.78 earned him league leadership in that Department. He began that season with Detroit; was traded to Chicago shortly after the season began. Has also played both infield and outfield.
"The Chief" pitched 2 no-hit, no-run games in 1951 to become the 2nd man in the history of baseball to accomplish this feat. A football star at Oklahoma A&M University, Allie came up to the majors with Cleveland in 1942. In '43, he led the American League in Strikeouts with 151. Traded to the Yanks after the '46 season, Allie had a 19-8 record in 1947, 16-7 in '48, 17-6 in '49 and 16-12 in '50. He had 7 shutouts in '51.
