In Gene's rookie year (1948), he won 20 games, while losing 7; had the best Earned Run Average in the American League (2.43); clinched the Pennant for the Indians by beating the Red Sox in a playoff game and won a World Series game. Since then, he had an 8-8 record in '49, was released to the Senators in '50, sold to the Tigers in '51 and traded to the Browns in '52. In pro ball since '39, Gene served in World War II. In 7 minor league seasons, he won 90 and lost 51.
Bill joined the Yankees last June along with Fred Talbot in exchange for Roger Repoz, and two pitchers. Though not regarded as a power hitter, Bill did crack 68 home runs in the minors. Bill was sent to Syracuse on May 10, 1967 by the New York Yankees.
