Bob signed with the Tigers fresh from high school last June for an estimated $55,000 bonus after being sought by 13 Major League Clubs. In his first Big League decision, he beat the Yankees, holding them to two hits in 3 1/3 relief innings. He lost to St. Louis in his only starting assignment but showed a blazing fastball, and great promise for the future.



One of the leading pitchers in the Giants' ascent to the National League throne. A right-hander, 6 ft. 1 in. tall and weighs around 195 pounds. Started professional career with Toledo in 1926. First went up to Giants in Fall of 1929. Spent the greater part of three years in the minors, but came back to New York club in 1932 and won a regular place. He has overcome his early tendency toward lack of control in pitching. Born in Lambertville, Mich., April 25, 1907.



Murry is one of the veterans of baseball. With the Phillies in 1954 he appeared in 40 games, winning 10 and losing 20. He worked 226 innings and his earned run average was 3.78. In 1951 Murray was a 20 game winner for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He began in organized ball in 1937 and first came to the majors at the end of the 1939 season with the Cardinals. He's a control pitcher.
