Name that player!

Called up by the Tigers in the middle of the 1950 season from Toledo, "Stu" has been a mainstay of the Tigers' relief corps. He had a 9-3 mark at Toledo in '50 and won 3, while losing 1 for the Tigers. A former semi-pro star, Marlin entered organized ball with Mayfield in 1940, winning 14 and fanning 186. In '42, he won 15 for Springfield and spent the next 3 years in the Armed Forces. With Little Rock in '48, he had a 15-10 record and got a trial with the Tigers.

When Jim got the call to the big time last year, the outfielder proved he was ready. The youngster is loaded with hustle and desire. Jim spent a full season in a Boston uniform in 1963 because of the first year bonus rule. When he was farmed out to Reading in 1964, the front office assured Jim that he'd be back in Fenway Park shortly. Youngster starred in four sports as school athlete.

Holder of every key strikeout record at Old Dominion University, Justin - the second overall pick of the 2004 draft - has been even more unhittable as a pro. He debuted in '05 with a 1.29 ERA over 20 starts that led all Minor League pitchers by a cavemous margin of 0.73. After earning a spot in the Futures Game, he soon received a summons to Detroit, where he started twice in July.

Charlie Gehringer
Charley Gehringer of the Detroit Tigers is one of those rare infielders who couples great skill in the field with hard hitting at the plate. Usually clever infielders are shy on batting ability, because as young- sters they gave most of their time to fielding and very little to batting. Remember, boys, a hard hitter can always find a place on any team, even though he may be an awkward and sloppy fielder. Never miss a chance to practice hitting and as long as you can find a friend who is patient enough to throw the ball up, keep swinging.
