Name that player!

The pitching sensation of the Texas League in 1938 was "Dizzy" Trout, who won 22 games for the Beaumont Club, losing only 6. He allowed only 180 hits in 233 innings of pitching, striking out 155 batters for an earned-run average of 2.16. For this record, one of the most impressive compiled by a minor leaguer, Dizzy was awarded the "most valuable player" award in the Texas League. He came up to the majors this year as a relief pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, along with his teammate and roommate, "Schoolboy" Rowe. Trout has been taking his regular turn at pitching for the Tigers and has won his share of the games.

One of the heroes of the 1940 World Series, although he was on the losing team, was Bruce Campbell, the courageous outfielder of the Detroit Tigers. Campbell hit .360 for the Tigers against the Cincinnati Reds, collected 9 hits, and drove in 5 runs. He batted close to the .300 mark during the season, driving in 44 runs on 88 hits. The Tigers got Campbell in a straight deal with Cleveland for outfielder "Beau" Bell.

Frank House
Returning from 2 years in Service, Frank proved to be a defensive Tower of Strength for the Tigers last season. He tied for 2nd in the A.L. on Defense and his throwing arm nailed enough base-runners to make him 3rd in Assists. Although Frank made the Majors with only one full year of Minor League experience, Tiger fans know when he's behind the plate, base-runners better beware.
