Pat MacLeod made his NHL debut with the North Stars last season but became a Shark when he was taken by San Jose in the 1991 Dispersal Draft. He spent most of the last two seasons with Kalamazoo (IHL) and last year finished second in scoring among Wings defensemen, drafted in the fifth round by Minnesota in 1989, MacLeod played his junior hockey for Kamloops (WHL). He scored his first NHL goal in his first game with the Sharks.
Jim makes up in ability what he lacks in colour. He goes about his work without fuss or fanfare. Rival forwards rate him as one of the toughest defensemen to deke out of position. He gives them a rough ride any time they try to dipsy doodle through.
Niedermayer is still considered one of the top defenseman in the NHL. The 2005-06 season saw him in peak form as he was tied for second in the NHL among defensemen in scoring.
