Throughout his 22-year career - 19 of which he has appeared in All-Star Games - Bourque has been the dominant all-around defenseman in the NHL, playing both ends of the ice with award-winning style and flair. The 2000-01 season was no different. As mentor to the entire defensive unit, Ray - excepting latecomer Rob Blake - led the Avs in points. The Hall of Fame eagerly awaits this hockey Goliath.
The sale of Dollard St. Laurent to the Chicago Black Hawks left the door wide open for Junior Langlois to step into a permanent defence berth with the Canadiens. And Langlois' play in the late season and playoffs of 1957-58 with Canadiens had much to do with the decision to sell St. Laurent. When called up from Rochester for the last game of the season in Detroit, Canadiens had only three regulars, Harvey, Talbot and Turner on defence. Langlois took a regular turn and played so well that Toe Blake had no qualms about starting him in the semi-finals against the Red Wings two nights later.
Pat MacLeod made his NHL debut with the North Stars last season but became a Shark when he was taken by San Jose in the 1991 Dispersal Draft. He spent most of the last two seasons with Kalamazoo (IHL) and last year finished second in scoring among Wings defensemen, drafted in the fifth round by Minnesota in 1989, MacLeod played his junior hockey for Kamloops (WHL). He scored his first NHL goal in his first game with the Sharks.
