Alvin Crowder, Detroit. Called "General" by his teammates, Crowder has pitched in the last three World Series, 1933 with Washington and the last two with Detroit. A veteran with thirteen years professional experience, he won one of the games which made Detroit the World Champions in 1935, allowing the Cubs only five hits over the full nine innings distance. Now 35, Crowder had his best years in 1932 when he led the American League pitchers with 26 victories and in 1933 when he tied Lefty Grove, then with the Athletics, with 24 games won.



The best-fielding shortstop in the American League in 1951, Chico set a new Record, handling 297 chances without an error. He was also one of the two shortstops in the League to take part in a Triple Play. A native of Venezuela, he broke into organized ball with Fort Worth in 1949, hitting .315. The White Sox bought him in '50. In his first full year in the majors, he hit .282, batting .362 in night ball. Chico is related to Alex Carrasquel, a former Big Leaguer.
