Chief of the National League Firemen (relief pitchers), Ted worked in more games than any other hurler in the League in 1951. He lost the first game of his Big League career in 1944 and then won 11 straight for the Cards. He finished the season with a 17-4 record and had marks of 8-0 in '46, 4-0 in '47, and 10-3 in '49. Sidelined most of the season because of an elbow operation in 1950, he was traded to the Pirates in 1951.
Dusty saw only limited action last year as the Giants shifted their outfield around in an attempt to find a winning combination. A powerful swing-from-the-heels type of batter, Dusty can sock 'em out of the park when a run is most needed. In the '54 Series he won 3 games against the Indians by belting 2 homers and ringing up a nifty .667 mark.
