Voted Rookie of the Year at end of 1949 campaign. That season Roy appeared in 140 games, batting .306. He had 28 doubles, 16 homers, and drove in 91 runs. But in 1950 he became a victim of that old sophomore slump. Hit .238 in 113 games. Batted in 57 runs. Roy played Legion ball in St. Louis. Also played while in Army. First year in organized ball was in 1947 with Hannibal, Mo.

In his third season with the Philadelphia Phillies, Pinky May may well prove to be the outstanding third-baseman in the National League. A steady defensive player, May has also improved his hitting and last year came close to the .300 mark with .293. He drove across 48 runs for the Quakers, collected 147 hits, and was thought well enough of to be named for the All-Star team representing the league against the American League aces.

When Don was with Baltimore in 1954, he lost 20 games. Two years later with the Yanks, he blossomed into one of the finest hurlers in the A.L. That year he won 9 games and in 1956 posted a 11-5 mark.
