Who leads drafted Yankees in pitching WAR since '00?
View AnswerCoffee Talk Name that player!
Brought up to the Tigers during the closing days of the 1965 cam- paign, Mickey impressed Mgr. Dressen with his hustle and natural ability. He's nothing short of sensational with a glove.
One of the biggest siege guns of the New York Yankees. Hasn't led the American League in batting up to this year, but five times finished in the first five. Twice voted most valuable player in American League. What a hitter! Last year swatted .349 in 155 games and smacked out 34 home runs. Used to do some pitching while playing for Columbia, but now confines his fielding to first base. Born in New York City in 1903. Is a left-hander, six feet, one inch tall and moves the weights at 200 pounds.
Probably the greatest tribute paid Bill Dickey is the saying - "As Dickey goes, so go the Yankees." And the Yankees have gone pretty well. There isn't a catcher in baseball today who can match Dickey's record. After eleven full seasons as top man behind the Yankee plate, Dickey boasts a .320 batting average he hit under .300 only once in 11 years. There isn't a more dangerous man in a pinch than Dickey. For the last four years he has batted across 100 or more runs, and in five World Series with the Yanks, brought in 19 tallies, five of them in the last classic. He has caught 100 or more games for 11 successive years, a feat equalling the major league record.
