Frank pitched only 4 innings in 3 appearances for the Tigers, and was involved in no decisions in 1954. However, he is regarded as a fine prospect. He starred at the University of Alabama, and was signed off the campus. In 1950 he was with Jamestown of the Pony League, where he won 5 and lost 2 and had a league leading 1.88 earned run average. He went in military service just at the beginning of the 1951 season. In 1953, he had a 17-11 record for Buffalo.
When Derrek gets in a groove, he is capable of most anything. On June 9-10, he posted back-to-back multi-homer games. In the first, he mashed a pair of 400-footers to center (not to mention his critical catch of a liner that observers say ranked as good as any they've seen). In the encore, he added two singles, four walks and a stolen base in a 14-inning affair.
The acquisition of Tim along with Ken Singleton and Mike Jorgensen proved to be a fine trade for Expos last season. Tim became Montreal's regular shortstop with his all-out hustle every minute of every game. He plays hard all the time, diving to make stops in field and hustling on the bases.
