Last season was Jim's first for the Braves. He played in 89 games at the beginning of the year and then illness kept him out of the line-up for the rest of the season. He broke into the majors at the end of the 1942 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and remained with them until being traded to the Braves after the 1947 season. He hit .312 for the Pirates in 1944.
Baltimore fans have a hometown boy to root for in Dave. The righthander has lived just a few miles from Memorial Stadium for most of his life. Dave was a standout in the Orioles' chain, compiling a 66-21 record in the minors.
Yogi, one of baseball's best catchers, was named the American League's Most Valuable Player in 1954, the second year he has been so honored. He appeared in 151 games for New York, and his .307 batting average was the fourth best in the league. He had 179 hits for a total of 285 bases. These included 28 doubles, 6 triples and 22 homers. He batted in 125 runs and scored 88. Yogi has been with the Yankees since the end of the 1946 season. He's an iron man behind the plate.
