His elbow injured by German fire during World War II, Eddie was told by doctors that he'd never play ball again. He returned to Baseball in 1946 and after hitting .326 at Omaha in '47 and .309 at Rochester in '48, the Cards called him up. In 1949, he hit .304 in 92 games and was sidelined with an ankle injury. Ed fell off to .256 in '50 and was sent to Houston. He was recalled in '51 after batting .304 in 104 games. He's been in pro ball since 1940.



Went to the White Sox from the Senators during the 1950 season. Eddie's fielding mark of .990 was just a point from the top AL percentage. He batted .295. Drove in 86 runs. Had 15 doubles and 21 homers. Took part in one triple play. Came to majors with Cleveland toward end of 1942 campaign. Spent next 3 seasons in the service. Farmed to Baltimore on return. Traded to Washington for 1949.



John J. McGraw, manager of the New York National League team, was born in Truxton, N. Y., April 7, 1873. In 1891 he played with the Cedar Rapids Club, then went to the Baltimore Club in 1892, and remained there until 1899. He was sold to the St. Louis Nationals in 1900, and in 1901 he organized a new Baltimore Club and placed it in the American League. In 1902 he sold out the Baltimore Club to the New York Giants. McGraw has been manager of the Giants since 1903.
