Has a fine arm, keen fielding sense - and power at bat. Hit grand-slam last year and smacked up a total of 30 home runs and 156 hits. Average .299, best on the Giants. Though listed as infielder, he helped form one of outstanding outfields in Polo Grounds history in 1947. Voted among top 25 National league players in '48.
The Pirates drafted Clem in November of '51 after he led Southern Association Shortstops in Fielding at Little Rock. His pro career started at Jamestown of the Pony League in '46 and Clem hit .299. He went to Williamsport in 1947, Charleston in 1948 and for Flint in 1949 broke the Central League Stolen Base Record with 39. The stocky "pepper-pot" player served in the Army during World War II.
