Marv had a good year for the Syracuse Chiefs in 1954, hitting .303 in 151 games. He had 22 home runs, 30 doubles and 10 triples for 274 total bases. Marv batted in 76 runs. Marv began in Baseball as a member of the Giants farm system, and first played with Lawton of the Sooner State League in 1947. Syracuse purchased his contract in July from Minneapolis. Through his first 50 games of 2008, Berkman batted a robust .385 with 16 home runs, 45 RBI and 52 runs scored. He banged out four hits, had four RBI and scored the winning run in the 12th inning against Milwaukee on 5/4.

Alex moved right into the regular Cardinal Shortstop berth last year. It looks like the Mississippi State College grad will be there for a long time, because he's a top-flight fielder and good hitter. Starting with Muskegon in '49, he played 3rd and batted .327. Advanced to Kansas City in '53, he was high man in Putouts and Assists while batting .307 and scoring 93 Runs.
