Coffee Talk Name that player!
Tug is one of the bright young prospects on the New York Mets. Although used sparingly as a first-year player, Tug showed the fans why the Mets were protecting him from the draft. He is a strong-armed left-hander with excellent control and the confidence of a veteran hurler. The New York Mets are banking on a strong contribution from this southpaw for seasons to come.
Bob Klinger has been one of the best hurlers on the Pittsburgh Pirate mound staff since he joined them in 1938. He came up to the majors after nine years of minor league ball and won 12 while losing only 5 for the Pirates in his first season. He captured 14 and dropped 17 last year, and this year has been pitching great ball for a disappointing Pirate team. Speed and control as well as an excellent change of pace and a good curve are Bob's assets as a pitcher.
Norway, the land of fjords, where cold and snow make winter sports a pastime for old and young, sends us our latest Skiing Sport King, A. Lekang, the Ski Champion of 1932. Much of the traveling during the winter in Norway is done with "skis", long wooden runners strapped on the feet. Boys in Lekang's native country learn to "ski" as soon as they are able to walk. A. Lekang became one of the outstanding Ski experts at home, and then came to America to test his skill against other greats. At the National Ski Championships held at Lake Tahoe, California, on February 28th, 1932, he won the Ski Championship by scoring 213 points, defeating such outstanding stars as Armstrong and Elvrum.
