"Bud" improved his '53 average last year but still couldn't get the breaks to give him his first winning season for the Redlegs. Starting in baseball with the Dodger organization, "Bud" moved up the Minor League ladder quickly. He played with the Dodgers part of the '50 and '51 seasons and posted a 7-6 record as a Brook. In '52 he joined the Redlegs in mid-season.
Few indeed are there who have never heard of "Red" Grange, the "Galloping Ghost" of Illinois. The number "77" worn on "Red's" Jersey became famous where ever football is known. Grange was born in Evanston. Playing sensational football for four years at the University of Illinois, he established one of the greatest records of all time. Scoring five touchdowns in five attempts at carrying the ball, and four of these made during the first twelve minutes of play, on runs of 95, 67, 56, 45, and 15 yards is the phenomenal record made by Grange in the game against Michigan in 1924. Grange kept in training, by delivering huge cakes of ice during his summer vacations. Now playing Professional Football, but expected to take up coaching.
The Club's MiLB Pitcher of the Year, Zebby excelled in his MLB debut. He had no walks and five Ks, including Bobby Witt Jr. as his first-ever victim.
