Hal, after 6 major league seasons as an outfielder, went back to pitching in 1954. He hadn't pitched since his first year in organized ball, 1946, when he pitched and played the outfield. In 1954 he got into 43 games for the Cubs, all but 3 of them relief appearances. He won 5 games and lost 6. Hal worked 104 innings. He did work in the outfield, appearing in 3 games. Hal hit .258, and drove in 6 runs. He's a good fielder.
Hit .294 for 118 games in 1950. Drove in 37 runs. In organized baseball since 1937. Hit the majors in 1941. Danny's first 2 big-league clubs were the Phillies and Braves. He spent parts of 1946 and 1947 in the minors. Came to the Pirates in 1948. Hit .290 in 146 games. Batted in 71 runs. Led NL second basemen in putouts, assists and double plays. Served 2 years in the armed forces.
The White Sox brought up Bill late in the season when their regular third baseman, Pete Ward, was injured. Bill hit well and figures to see more duty at third in '69 or in the outfield. A product of the Chicago farm system!
