John McGraw was not too anxious to sign "Hal" Schumacher on a scout's enthusiasm in 1930, but a week after signing him the "Little Napoleon" of the Giants was singing his praises. "That boy," he told newspapermen. "has more natural stuff than any pitcher who has came up with this club in the last ten years. In his first year as a regular, 1933, Schumacher won 19 games for the Giants, and has been a steady, consistent pitcher since. "Hal" is noted for his "sinker" and has won a total of 117 games, while losing only 81 for the Giants, but he boasts most of his record of six home runs in the season of 1934, a National League mark for pitchers. Hal won 13 and lost 10 for the Giants last year. He is a graduate of St. Lawrence College.
