John McGraw was not too anxious to sign "Hal" Schumacher on a scout's enthusiasm in 1930, but a week after signing him the "Little Napoleon" of the Giants was singing his praises. "That boy," he told newspapermen. "has more natural stuff than any pitcher who has came up with this club in the last ten years. In his first year as a regular, 1933, Schumacher won 19 games for the Giants, and has been a steady, consistent pitcher since. "Hal" is noted for his "sinker" and has won a total of 117 games, while losing only 81 for the Giants, but he boasts most of his record of six home runs in the season of 1934, a National League mark for pitchers. Hal won 13 and lost 10 for the Giants last year. He is a graduate of St. Lawrence College.

A valuable man in the Dodgers' second line of defense, "Rube" is one of the most dependable catchers in Baseball. He has a strong, accurate arm and loves to mow down runners trying to steal. Breaking in with Erwin in '44, he led his League at Davenport in '46 with .354 and was tops in Fielding. In '48, he advanced to the Cubs hitting .275 and joined the Brooks in '51.
