Dick had a fine rookie campaign last year. Had 17 shutouts in minors, plus a no-hitter vs. Greensboro on 5-15-66. That year he was league's 2nd best in ERA and in 1968 he pitched Toledo to the league title. Tied for Royals lead with 10 complete games in 1969. Drafted from Tigers.
After establishing himself as one of the most brilliant-fielding first basemen in the American League with the New York Yankees, "Babe" Dahlgren finds himself in new surroundings for 1941. The flashy first-sacker was sold to the Boston Braves by the Yankees. Not a terrific hitter, Dahlgren was a timely batter with the Yankees, and stood out as a defensive bulwark. Last year, he hit only .264 but drove 73 runs across the plate.
In 1947, his 2nd season of organized baseball, Bob led the Piedmont League with 208 Strikeouts. The next year, the Yankees called him up from Newark after he had won 15 and lost 6 and had a League leading 2.17 Earned Run Average. Bob tore a muscle in his throwing arm in '49 and was sent down to Kansas City after a brief stay with the Yanks in '50. The Senators bought him during the '51 season and Bob threw 3 shutouts and a 2-hitter for the Capitol City team.
