Few rookies ever made a more auspicious debut than Jablonski who batted across 112 runs in 1953 for the Cardinals. Just 26, Ray is noted for his steady chatter and solid infield play. A native of Chicago, he was developed in the Cardinal farm system with stops in Milford, Columbus (Ga.), Winston-Salem and Rochester.
John Peacock, who was a star quarterback for the University of North Carolina before adopting a professional baseball career in 1933, was half of the Boston Red Sox catching staff last year. He shared the backstopping burden with "Gene" Desautels and once again proved himself a steady player. He hit only .277, below his .303 of 1938, but drove in 36 runs and scored 33. He joined the Sox as a free agent in 1937, and was optioned and recalled from Minneapolis that same year.
Hit .308 in 130 games in 1950. Drove in 49 runs. In 1949 Dale was the top fielding outfielder in the League. Hung up a .9942 percentage. Batting average, that year, was .317. Paced the League in times at hat (640), total hits (203), triples (23). The 1947 campaign was Dale's first complete season as a Cleveland Indian. He batted .316 - an average which he upped in 1948 to .336.
