"Bill" Knickerbocker, who would be a reguar on any other team, is the handy man for the Yankee infield. He can, and has played second, third and short; is a brilliant fielder, and a dangerous hitter in the pinches. He came up with Cleveland in 1933, after two seasons with Toledo, and held down the regular shortstop post for the Indians until traded to the Browns in 1937. The Browns sent "Knick" to the Yankees for Don Heffner and cash, in 1938. While he has not seen too much action with the world champs, he has proved an aggressive, hustling, capable player whenever used. His lifetime batting mark is close to .300, and he has driven across 310 runs.
In his first year in the N.L., Clete put it altogether in 1967 as he reached personal highs in homers and RBI's.
When big Bob really finds the range he'll be one of the most feared sluggers in the American League, as he was in the minor leagues. With the Yankees in 1954, he appeared in 56 games, hitting .260. His 26 hits were good for a total of 47 bases, and included 5 home runs. He batted in 13 runs. He began in 1950 with Kansas City of the American Association, his only other team in baseball. Holds a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Nebraska.
