Heinie Manush was one of the great hitters the American League produced after 1920. An outfielder, he started his career with the Detroit Tigers in 1923, and saw action with six different clubs, but his hitting was always prominent. He played with the Tigers, the Browns, Senators, and Red Sox in the American League, and with Brooklyn and Pittsburgh in the National, winding up with a lifetime batting average of .330 on 2524 hits. He was a powerful, dangerous hitter, his drives including 110 homers, 160 triples and 491 doubles. He drove in 117 runs, led the league in hitting with .378 in 1928. In 1928 and 1933, led the league in hits with 241 and 221 respectively. His major league career ended late last season with the Pirates.
