A runner on second base should be able to score on any hit to the outfield. "Should" is the operative word there. Perched on the keystone bag on Aug. 31, 2024, Chicago's Seiya Suzuki broke for the plate when his teammate lined a single to right. He was cut down at home, however, by a missile that marked the first assist of Crews' career.



Purchased by American League as umpire from International League September 8, 1942. Graduate of Lafayette College 1925. Broke into pro ball in 1925 with Philadelphia Athletics. He was with Boston Red Sox 1928-1932, with Chicago White Sox 1932-1933, and back with Athletics 1934-1938, all as a catcher. Coached with the Athletics 1936-1940, managed Wilmington Interstate League late in 1940 season. Began umpiring with Eastern League in 1941. He was a world series umpire 1954.



Jim, a strong pitcher, got into 29 games for the 1954 Giants, the World Champions. He had a .500 percentage, with 8 wins and 8 losses. Two of his wins were shut-outs. He worked 130 innings, and gave up 137 hits. He walked 66 and struck out 45. Came to the Giants in July 1950, when they claimed him on waivers from the Cardinals. He went on to an 11-4 season and his earned run average of 2.49 was the league's best. He won 17 and lost 9 in 1951, when the Giants won the pennant.
