One of the outstanding 1949 rookies. In 73 games for Chisox, hitting .318. Benched by shoulder injury toward end of season. Got first chance in majors as Indian, but released to Hollywood. Sox purchased Gus after 1947 season, but left him with Hollywood in 1948, when he led the Pacific Coast League in hits, total bases, runs batted in.
A powerful long-ball hitter, Stan has clouted at least 20 Homers in 3 of his 7 Minor League seasons. A versatile fielder, he played Third Base and the Outfield for Baltimore (International League) last year. Stan hit .335 with 105 RBI's at Oshkosh in '47, then followed with 22 Homers and 108 RBI's at Trenton and 23 HR's and a .305 mark at Sioux City in 1949.
In six full seasons with the Cleveland Indians, "Hal" Trosky has never failed to drive in at least 100 runs. Trosky is one of the longest and most dangerous hitters in the American League, last year hitting .335 and batting across 104 runs. He won the runs- batted-in crown with 162 in 1936. He is also an adroit fielder, finishing right up with the leaders. Trosky's outstanding feat as an Indian was hitting 42 homers in 1936, a record for a Cleveland player. He has failed to hit 25 or more a season only once. Trosky came to the Indians late in the 1933 season, and the following year, his first full one, got 206 hits and batted .330.
