In organized ball since 1912. Playing career lasted through 1936. Has managed in majors and minors since 1928, missing only 1933 and 1934. Built up a great reputation while managing the Cardinals. They were in 7th place in June 1940 when Billy took over as pilot. They finished third for that year, second in 1941, and first for 1942, 1943, 1944. Billy moved to Braves, '46. Guided them to pennant, '48.
Billy is always in the move, because the entire infield is his position! Last season the scrappy utility player, found himself stationed at 2nd, 3rd and Shortstop, playing each position with Major League ability. Always known as a fine fielder, Billy had to work on his batting to join the World Champions. In '53 at Nashville, he found his hitting eye and batted .308 and came up to the Giants.
In Game 6 of the 2021 American League Championship Series, Luis had the second-longest no-hit bid by a rookie hurler in Postseason history 5.2 innings. His five fastest pitches that night were the fastest of his career (97+ mph). In his first 46 MLB starts in the regular season, he posted a 3.52 ERA while whiffing 26.2% of the batters he faced.
