"Rollie" Hemsley is one of the outstanding catchers in baseball. A veteran of thirteen seasons in the majors, he has been, and is a steadying influence on pitchers, and is a dangerous hitter to face at any time. Hemsley first came up with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1928, was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 1931, to Cincinnati in 1933, and to the St. Louis Browns in August of that year. The Browns sent him to Cleveland in 1938. Hemsley has driven across a total of 405 runs with his 952 hits. He was the catcher for the American League All-Stars in 1935. He has been going great guns this season, and seems headed for his greatest year.
Tom was platooned with teammate Bill Skowron at first base for most of the 1965 campaign. Last year he developed into the top lefty pinch-hitter on the Sox. A speedy base-runner, Tommy finished second on the team in stolen bases. Mgr. Lopez often puts Tom in the outfield when righty pitchers oppose Chicago.
