Tommy Henrich started his baseball career in 1934 with the Monessen Club, with whom he had a batting average of .326. Henrich was declared a free agent at the end of the 1936 season, and sold himself to the Yankees, playing with them in 1937. At the present time he is one of their star outfielders. Last year he finished third in fielding, in the American League. His first year with the Yankees he played in 67 games. Tommy Henrich collected 66 hits for a batting average of .320. His two-year major-league average in 198 games played shows 193 hits, for a batting average of .285.
In '55 Elmer had the top AL pinch hit batting mark of .452. He is also a fine fielder with loads of spirit. His greatest thrill was hitting .305 in '48 to keep the A's in the pennant race.
