"Chuck" Klein, who holds numerous batting records, set another sort of a record when he was signed as a free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies this Spring. Klein started his major league career with the Phillies in 1928, was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 1933, back to the Phillies in 1936 and finally released outright by them early last year. "Chuck" immediately signed as a free agent with the Pirates and proceeded to hit an even .300 in 85 games. He was given his release by the Pirates this Spring and a week later signed again with the Phils. Klein has been one of the great hitters of the past decade. His 158 runs scored in 1930, and 107 extra bases that same year are league records. In his career, he has won at least once every batting title from the league championship down.
Possessing one of the game's best fireballs, Ryne is the man the Angels call in during the late innings to blind the opposing batters. Ryne fanned 1,614 minor leaguers.
One of the hustlingest players in baseball. "Country" just doesn't know how to let down. Batted .290 in 148 games in 1950 (tenth active season with the Cardinals). In 1949 Enos had one of his best seasons. His .336 average was third best in the League, and accounted for 34 doubles, 13 triples. 13 homers. He has been on 6 All-Star teams.
