Carl joined the A's at the age of 16 in '43 and has been with them since, except for 2 years in the Army. He had his best year in '48 when he chalked up 14 wins against 8 losses and had a .393 Earned Run Average. Carl had records of 9-12 in '49, 3-10 in '50 and 1-12 in '51. An excellent hitter for a pitcher, he is often used as a pinch hitter. He played 52 games in the outfield for the A's in '48 and batted .298.



Bob has a curveball which drives hitters crazy. Bob holds the N.L. Record for most putouts by a pitcher in an overtime game. He is a sportsman during his time off, too. Fishing is his favorite hobby.
