Clark Griffith, the "Old Fox" who owns the Washington Senators, calls "Ken" Chase one of the outstanding left-handed pitchers in baseball today. Considering the fact that Chase pitched for a sixth-place club last year in a league which boasts the New York Yankees, his 1939 record is a good one. He won 10 and lost 19, but he had an earned run average of 3.80, right up among the leaders. His victories include a two-hit shutout over Cleveland, against the mighty Bob Feller. He struck out 118, finishing fifth in that department, and he hurled 15 complete games, three of them four-hitters. This is "Ken's" sixth year with the Senators, and he promises to live up to his boss' praise.
