Coffee Talk Name that player!
"Monk" pitched in the minors 3 years before coming up with the Yankees in 1944. At Newark in 1943, he won 16 and pitched a 7-inning no-hit game. In 2 seasons with the Yanks he won 23 and lost 22 and was sent down in 1946. The Phillies brought him up again in 1948 and traded him to the Cubs in 1949. As a Cub in 1949-50, he had 6-9, 6-10 records. He spent part of 1951 at Springfield but the Cubs recalled him in July. His special pitch is a "sinker ball."
Collectors should be on the lookout for forged 1909 T206 Set cards — particularly those of Wagner, the Big Four, or Cobb cards.
Hank promised himself that 1954 would be his best Major League season to date. Always a gentleman, he kept his promise and delighted Cub fans by belting more Homers and posting a higher Batting Average than ever before! Hank also had a great year in '52, winning the R.B.I. Title and tying for Home Run honors with 37, to win the National League's Most Valuable Player Award.
