This was in 1925, the next season he was sold to Pittsburgh. Needed experience and was sent to minors a couple of times. Came back to stick in 1928. Twice hit over 300 in big league. It was in both 1950 and 1951 that Gill showed his abilities. He hit .303 for both of those seasons, driving in 50 runs one year and 62 the next. In April 1951 he tied a major league record by hitting two triples in an inning. Gil's a speed boy.

Stepped from industrial school in Baltimore to minor league ball and went to big league in less than a year. Was star pitcher for several years, but now plays in outfield. Holds big league home run record, 60, made in 1927. Led American League in batting in 1924. Last year batted .341 and hit 41 homers. Is 39 years old, six feet, two inches tall and weighs 210.
