After stepping to the plate for just one Major League at-bat in 2007 (a pop out against the Rockies on 9/21), Morton was brought back up in April '08 to fill a need at the catching position for San Diego. He scored a run in his first game of the year on 4/8 after entering the contest as a pinch-runner, and then he delivered his first ML hit on 5/8 at Atlanta.
Andy is a fighting, sturdy catcher, who doesn't let small things like injuries keep him from donning the pads of his profession. He was in 108 games for the Reds in 1952, batting .256. He had 14 home runs. Andy began in baseball in 1940. He spent parts of 1943 and 1944 with the Phils, returning to stick in the majors in 1945. Traded to the Reds in December 1951.
Ed was acquired along with another player from the Angels for relief ace Hoyt Wilhelm. The outfielder set a California Angel record in 1968 when he collected 14 pinch-hits. Ed's big thrill was getting his first major league hit which broke up a 15-inning game.
