"Bubba" began the 1950 campaign - his rookie year - by winning the first 4 games in which he took part. His final record for the season was 8 and 6 in 31 contests. Badly injured toward end of season when a line drive hit him in the face. The injury, which required an operation, cut down his effectiveness in the season's late stages. Signed by the Phillies in 1947. In their farm system until 1950.
Roger won 66.4% of his decisions in six seasons with the Yankees, finishing his career with the third-most WAR (138.7) of any pitcher in history. In 2001, he won his sixth of seven Cy Young Awards after going 20-3 with 213 strikeouts for New York.
Don is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in baseball. He spent most of the 1954 season with the Dodgers' top farm team, St. Paul. He hit .291 for 73 games for them. He had 17 home runs and 53 runs batted in. The Dodgers called him up, and he got in 23 games for them, hitting .182. In 1953 with St. Paul, Don hit an even .300. He had 23 home runs and 63 runs batted in for 81 games. His 96 hits were good for a total of 187 bases. He's a fine fielder.
