Johnny was in 60 games for the 1953 version of the Bengal City nine, hitting .222. The Tigers acquired him from Rochester in December 1952 through the draft. He began in pro ball in his native Allentown in 1943, and spent time with Columbus, Rochester and Omaha, before making it to the Cardinals, briefly, in 1948. He was also with Houston and Rochester in 1948. With Rochester in 1952 Johnny got into 144 games and hit a good .284.

A total of 524 cards are in the 1909 T206 Set but that number can be up for debate.

Hal has 3 brothers who were Major League pitchers - he's the first outfielder. He broke into pro ball in '46 and had his best year in '47 with Nashville, when he led the Southern Association in Hits, stole 22 bases and batted .346. Hal hit .279 in 134 games for the Cubs in '48, his first year in the majors. That year he was knocked unconscious when he ran into a wall chasing a line drive. In 1949 and '50 he fell down to .245 and .235, but raised his batting mark in 1951.
