Arky Vaughan last year maintained a major league record of never hitting below .300. For the ninth consecutive season, since he joined the Pirates in 1932, Vaughan batted .300 or better. His mark in 1940 was an even .300 but he reached a peak in timeliness with 95 runs batted in, and led the league in triples with 15, and runs scored with 113, while not missing a single one of the 156 games in which the Pirates took part. Vaughan has appeared in 5 of the inter-league all-star games and boasts a batting average for the mid-season classic of .313.
Batted .260 in 130 games for the Reds in 1950. Drove in 54 runs. Grady's .954 fielding percentage tied him for second spot among National League third basemen.
