"Bobo" is one of the most fabulous characters in diamond history. He holds the record for playing on most Major League teams (9), and has worn the uniform of 6 of the 8 AL teams. A good many of his teammates and opponents were in the cradle when he played his 1st pro ball game in 1928. He's a member of the exclusive 200-win club and yet has lost more ball games in the Majors than he has won. The A's signed him in June of '52.
It is hard to imagine Bill ever topping the amazing slugging record he compiled with Lubbock of the West Texas-New Mexico League in '47. Not only did he hit a total of 70 Homers 57 in the regular season and 13 in the playoffs but also batted in 190 runs and had a .374 B.A.! He hit 28 HR's and had 110 RBI's with Dallas in '49 before the Cubs brought him up. Nicknamed the "Whip" because of his powerful arm, Bill was out most of the '51 season with a broken wrist.
