In general, cards featuring portraits of players are more desirable than the cards featuring action shots in the 1909 T206 Set.
Walt is considered a fine prospect. He began the 1954 season with the Dodgers' American Association farm team at St. Paul. He hit .301 for them in 71 games. His 81 hits were good for a total of 150 bases, and included 18 homers. He batted in 50 runs. The Dodgers needed outfield help and they called Walt up. He got into 48 games for them, hitting .275. He batted in 14 runs with 25 hits for Brooklyn.
Sam West, starting his 13th season in baseball, is one of the American League's best all-around outfielders. He started in the big leagues with Washington in 1927 and played with them until the end of the 1932 season, when he was traded to the St. Louis Browns, along with Carl Reynolds, Lloyd Brown, and $20,000, for "Goose" Goslin, Fred Schulte, and Walter Stuart. He played with the Browns until the middle of the 1938 season, failing to hit over .300 only once that year. On June 15th, 1938, he was traded to the Washington Senators for Mel Almada. His 12-year major-league record shows 1658 hits in 1506 games, for a batting average of .303.
